Office or Home Teeth Whitening Services in Spokane
How Does the Teeth Whitening Process Work?
You won’t find any problems finding a teeth whitening product these days. Each one of them contain fundamental ingredients necessary to whiten up your choppers.
All products that whiten teeth use some type of “peroxide.” The most frequently used peroxides include hydrogen peroxide and carbamide peroxide. Both of them bleach teeth in order to remove various surface stains.
Each type of peroxide contains oxygen molecules, which violently react when they engage with your teeth’s surface stains. Such a reaction destroys molecular bonds holding the discoloration or stain onto a tooth. Subsequently, stains get “lifted” from the enamel of your teeth.
What Does Teeth Whitening Treat?
Whitening teeth is an optimal approach to treating stains that are on the exterior area. Stains on teeth can come about from all sorts of things, including:
- Yellowing that’s caused by aging or oral neglect.
- Tobacco use and smoking.
- Stains that come from colored and dark beverages and foods (berries, wines, tea, coffee, etc.).
With that said, teeth whitening products aren’t capable of treating stains on the inner portion. Discoloration that comes about from certain internal issues (like tooth decay, amalgam fillings, or stains derived from antibiotics) can’t be treated using a teeth whitening product. These types of issues will need another type of cosmetic treatment or a crown.
What Separates Teeth Whitening In-Office Procedures from At-Home Ones?
We provide at-home and in-office teeth whitening services, and both treatments will bring you the same result – a much more vibrant smile. This begs the question – what separates the two options?
Teeth whitening performed in-office generally involves a strong peroxide-heavy agent and some sort of light source (like UV light). Oxygen molecules are excited by the light, resulting in quicker outcomes. You can expect this treatment process to last approximately 45 minutes.
By contrast, whitening at home utilizes customized whitening trays. There isn’t any UV light involved. Simply wear these trays while you’re at home. Because of differences in the two processes, you can expect to see results in about one week.
